Changes to Environment

Set up camping area

Backpack Paper towel rolls and construction paper “fire” Binoculars Camping pots and pans Flashlights Glow in dark stars Kiddie plastic Fishing pole with magnetic fish Sticks, leaves, etc Dirt Nature sounds CD Books about camping Plastic bugs Bug containers, nets, tongs, etc Magnifying glasses Plastic lantern Hiking type clothes (bandana, flannel shirt, boots, vest, etc) Empty containers of food you would take camping Lincoln logs Tent Footprints of forest animals Water canteen Thermos Kiddie grill Kiddie first aid kit Compass Maps Picnic Baskets Tackle boxes Plastic food that you would eat while camping (hot dogs, corn on cob, etc)


Water table: plastic camping food, spatula, plastic cups and plates, aluminum foil pieces, etc Sensory table: dirt, magnifying glasses, plastic bug, sticks, bug containers, leaves, etc 

Teaching Concepts for Indoor Experiences

1. Paint with sticks 2. Pretend you are camping using tent, construction paper fire, etc 3. Dig for bugs in the sensory table 4. Make binoculars with toilet paper rolls (let children color and decorate)

5. Pretend you are at a campfire (using paper towel roll and construction paper fire) roasting hot dogs and marshmallows (made from construction paper) and telling stories 6. Play nature tic tac toe (older children) 






7. Dress up play with hiking type clothes 8. Flashlight reading (look at books using a flashlight)









9. Place band aids on construction paper to make a lightening bug

Teaching Concepts for Outdoor Experiences

1. Search for footprints of forest animals 2. Nature walk looking through binoculars 3. Put the fire out (pour buckets of water on “fire”) 4. Go fishing 5. Go on a bear hunt 6. Scavenger hunt

Then we added more logs, To make the fire bright. We sang our favorite camp songs, Together with all our might. Then the fire flickered, And the embers began to form. We snuggled in our sleeping bags, All cozy, tired, and warm. 3. By the Light of My Camp Flashlight (tune: By the Light of the Silvery Moon) By the light of my camp flashlight, Wish I could see, What it was that just bit my knee. Batteries, why did you fail me? The chance I slim, The chance is slight, I can last through the night, With my camp flashlight. 4. At the Campground (tune: Happy Birthday) Oh, we like to (hike). Yes, we like to (hike). We (hike) at the campground, Oh we like to (hike). Replace hike with other action words, such as fish, cook, and camp 5. Along The Trail  Sung to: “Frere Jacques” Let’s go marching, let’s go marching, Along the trail, along the trail. I love to march fast, I love to march slow, Along the trail, along the trail. 6. Campfire Pokey You put your marshmallow in. You take your marshmallow out. You put your marshmallow in and you shake it all about. You do the campfire pokey and you turn yourself about. That's what it's all about, hey! *Substitute "marshmallow" with hotdog, potato, popcorn, apple,  and anything else you can roast over a campfire. *At the end use the phrase: You put your whole dinner in. You take your whole dinner out. You put your whole dinner in and you shake it all about. You do the campfire pokey and you turn yourself about. That's what it's all about, yum, yum!! 7. Over The River (marching song) Over the river, along the trail The hikers march along  And as they go, they love to sing Their favorite hiking song. Over the river, along the trail They love to hike and sing They're filled with all the wonders A nature hike can bring.

Sleep, raccoon. Sleep, raccoon, Warm and cozily. In the darkest part of night Raccoon has the best eyesight. Look raccoon, Look, raccoon, My, your eyes are bright. Raccoon hardly makes a sound When he prowls all around. Hunt raccoon, Hunt raccoon, Find food on the ground. 4. Going Camping (tune: I’m a Little Teapot) I am going camping. (point thumbs proudly to chest) Time to pack (point to wristwatch) My tent, my bedroll, (Make tent with hands; then fold hands to cheek.) And a snack. (Pretend to eat) I’ll sit by the campfire (warm hands over fire.) Its glow so bright. (Fan and wiggle fingers to resemble fire.) Then snooze in my tent (Pretend to snore.) ‘Til the morning light! (Open eyes wide, forming sun over head.)


Teaching Concepts for Distance Learning


1. I Spy

Pick an item that can easily be seen by all the children and share.


2. Animal Walks

Show an animal card or say an animal and students move like that animal.
